Key developments in the manhunt for Ralph "Bucky" Phillips:
•April 2 -- Phillips escapes from the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden.
•June 10 -- Around 1 a.m., Trooper Sean M. Brown is shot on Parrott Road in the Chemung County town of Veteran. Phillips is suspected.
•June 20 -- Police link Phillips to a stolen maroon van from the Hancock area in Delaware County. The van is recovered June 25 in Chautauqua County.
•June 28 -- Police recover three guns after spotting Phillips and give chase but cannot apprehend him. Police later report that one of the guns, a .38-caliber pistol, matches the weapon used to shoot Brown and that the gun had Phillips' fingerprints.
•Aug. 4 -- Police suspect Phillips of stealing a Ford Mustang from the Cattaraugus County town of Portville. They later recover the car near the Tuscarora Indian Reservation town of Lewistown.
•Aug. 8 -- Phillips is spotted twice, once by a state trooper, and a foot chase ensues but Phillips again eludes capture.
•Aug. 14 -- Police report that Phillips paid $1,000 in cash for a motorcycle in New Castle, Pa.
•Aug. 19 -- A trooper attempts to pull Phillips over on Route 60 in Chautauqua County, but Phillips ditches the bike and runs into a home. Police arrest three residents of the home and charge them with hindering prosecution. Police believe Phillips fled the home through a rear window.
•Aug. 22 -- Troopers raid the home of Kasey Crowe, Phillips' former girlfriend, in the town of Pomfret in Chautauqua County.
•Aug. 24 -- Police arrest Kasey Crowe of Stockton and Patrina Wright (her daughter) and Richard Catanese, both of Fredonia, two days after state police search Crowe's home.
•Aug. 26-27 -- Police report that 41 firearms were stolen during the weekend from a Chautauqua County gun shop. Phillips is a suspect, police say.
•Aug. 30 -- Pennsylvania State Police arrest Todd Nelson, 30, of Ludlow, Pa., and recover 33 guns, suspected of being from the gun shop robbery in Chautauqua County. Police charge Nelson with hindering the apprehension of Phillips and say the fugitive may have spent 11 days in Nelson's home.
•Aug. 31 -- State troopers Donald Baker Jr., 38, and Joseph Longobardo, 32, are shot by a sniper while on surveillance around Crowe's home. State police say they suspect Phillips was the shooter and the manhunt intensifies.
•Sept. 2 -- Doctors at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo amputate the left leg of Trooper Joseph Longobardo, who suffered severe blood loss when he was shot. Baker, who was shot in the back, was in critical condition at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.
•Sept. 3 -- Longobardo dies at 3:35 p.m. He is survived by his wife, their 13-month-old son, his parents and a sister. Baker is upgraded to serious condition early in the day, but is later returned to critical condition.
•Sept. 4 -- The search for Phillips continues in Chautauqua County as leads pour in from across central New York from Utica to Hamburg.
•Sept. 5 -- A second group of state troopers from the local barracks head to Chautauqua County to relieve the first group from the barracks. Funeral arrangements are announced for Trooper Longobardo. State police announce the arrest of Todd Allen Nelson, 30, of Ludlow, Pa., who is accused of hindering Phillips' apprehension, and police recovered 33 stolen firearms from Nelson's McKean County home.
•Sept. 6 -- Phillips is named to the U.S. Marshals' "15 Most Wanted" list.•Sept. 7 -- Phillips is named to the FBI's "10 Most Wanted" list.
•Sept. 8 -- Police report the following series of events:1:55 a.m.: Warren County, Pa., sheriff's deputies receive a report of a stolen silver Honda from a home. Two deputies spot the vehicle and a chase starts. The driver of the stolen vehicle fails to make a sharp turn, and the car veers into trees. The driver flees the vehicle and runs into the woods. Local, state and federal law enforcement officers set up a perimeter, believing it is Phillips.About 2:30 a.m.: Phillips steals a second car about 20 minutes after the first crash and drives it into New York state. Two New York State Police cars spot the vehicle and a chase begins at high speeds near Frewsburg in the town of Carroll, N.Y., about 20 miles from the scene of the first crash. Phillips jumps from the moving vehicle and again flees into the woods.About 7:30 a.m.: Police set up a perimeter from Frewsburg to Akeley, Pa., including the 500-acre Akeley Swamp and a golf course where a truck stolen by Phillips was found two weeks ago.9:10 a.m.: Two troopers with dogs encounter Phillips by a stream. As troopers approach, Phillips turns around with pistol in hand but does not fire. Troopers fire an undisclosed number of shots but Phillips flees into the woods. New York State Police Superintendent Wayne Bennett say it does not appear that Phillips was hit.Afternoon: Police believe Phillips is contained in several square miles straddling the New York-Pennsylvania border.8 p.m.: Phillips surrenders to police, walking out of a cornfield just over the Pennsylvania line with his hands up. He was unarmed.
•Sept. 9 -- A federal judge in Buffalo turns Phillips over to the state police, and Phillips returns to Chemung County to be arraigned on an attempted murder charge in the June 10 shooting of Brown.In county court, Phillips is charged with eight counts, including attempted aggravated murder, first-degree attempted murder and second-degree attempted murder. He does not enter a plea and is sent to the county jail. His next county court appearance is Oct. 23.
